LGBTQ refugees in South Sudan
United States
Ace Noel is a queer Ugandan refugee and advocate for their network of displaced LGBTQ folks. Their group consists of about 40 LGBTQ refugees currently residing in Juba, South Sudan. Previously living in the Gorom refugee settlement, a UN supported settlement, they were one day suddenly ordered to leave by the South Sudanese government. On top of an unsupportive host government, they also frequently faced discrimination from others living in the camp as well. But thanks to past fundraising efforts sought out by Noel and donations from kind , they were able to secure housing for their group in the city of Juba. Though their situation is better than before, they still face the same discrimination, as well as danger from the unrest and military clashes going on in South Sudan. Now, it is a matter of maintaining it as they apply and wait for passports or asylum status in various countries.
This is an initiative set up primarily to raise money for rent and other living expenses. It will be an ongoing campaign, and we invite you to make a recurring donation if you are able. We decided to open a chuffed specifically to take advantage of its monthly donation feature. The funds will be sent to Noel’s account using the Sendwave app.
My name is Mandy and I live in California. I’m running this campaign on Noel’s behalf. Noel and I became friends on tumblr some time in early 2025. Their story inspired me, and I truly believe it’s important to stand in solidarity with all oppressed and marginalized people. There’s a lot going on in the world and many people are without any social safety nets, so we have to do what we can.
